Carson & King George Strait!
George,  not associated with CPRIT

CPRIT's got swagger & the backs of
children fighting cancer--

In addition to the $3.2 million CPRIT + CLF partnership

CPRIT just announced
New CPRIT RFA's in March will include individual investigator research awards for cancer in children and adolescents!

cancer IS the #1 disease killer of American children
Texas say we hear you & we've got your back -
It's an honor to serve on CPRIT's childhood cancer advisory council!

UNTIL THEN, FIGHT'S ON...

I recently returned from a whirlwind trip to Washington, D.C.

From the moment I stepped off the plane in D.C.,
there was an amazing powerful atmosphere of being among decision makers that shape our world.

Everyone in D.C., has

an agenda, my agenda is fighting for research dollars and awareness that childhood cancer is the #1 disease killer of American children...

Since Carson's death, January 12, 2010, these past 3 years have been extremely successful and healing to my aching heart by being part of the Creating Hope (written by my friend Nancy Goodman who's son died from the same disgusting cancer as our Carson).

This bipartisian act was championed by the MOST amazing Congressman on The Hill, Congressman Michael McCaul!

I had the privilege of sharing Carson's story in Congressman Michael McCaul's home when he kicked off his childhood cancer caucus just 8 months after Carsonie died...
and now it is an official BILL...

I was telling hubby-Craig last weekend, that very often I think...

what the heck just happened??

We had this family with 2 strong-healthy boys and we were clipping along, doing life...

Then one day my greatest fear came true...

Our boy gets sick with life stealing-disgusting cancer, he fights valiantly for life,

But slowly dies before our eyes while we searched the world for a cure that is yet to be discovered...

My heart tells me to fight for the next kid & we promised Carson that we would...

And, I went from being a 1st grade teacher to an absolutely possessed childhood-cancer-fighting-broken-hearted momma bear...

FIGHT'S ON...
RAISING FUNDS SO A BRILLIANT SCIENTIST CAN FIGURE OUT CURE...
SOMEDAY SOON...

UNTIL THEN...

little 'ole me, & the Great Congressman McCaul!

childhood cancer is part of me...

childhood cancer is part of me…

Last week I over heard someone saying, that’s the lady whose son died of cancer…then, they both kindly walked over and we talked…

Childhood cancer will always be part of who I am…

I’ve been blue lately.
And I know it’s because of the company I have been keeping!
That company comes with a burden.
But it’s worth it because children are worth it!

Here’s the skinny on some of my company:

·      Tuesday, a young boy died from medulloblastoma, same disease as our Carson.  Sure bet Carson is showing him the ropes of heaven…
·      Last week a young boy was transferred to hospice care, his young life cut short and death is imminent…
·      Two weeks ago a young boy’s leg was amputated because of a large, invasive, disgusting tumor.  He faces a lifetime of trials.

In the mist of feeling the burden of these children’s journeys, I received a letter from Congressman McCaul’s office confirming that the childhood cancer research work that I have had the privilege of being part of in Washington, D.C. is coming to fruition and making GREAT progress!

This helps my “blueness” because fighting the thief who stole my boy is very healing to me!

Here’s a bit of the letter from Congressman McCaul's office:

“I am extremely grateful to Annette Leslie for her tremendous passion and hard work on behalf of children with cancer.  For the past two years she has played an instrumental role in building support for the Creating Hope Act, which was unanimously approved in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, and will provide incentives for the development of new drugs to treat children with rare diseases, such as pediatric cancer.  Since the 1980s, only one new childhood cancer drug has been approved by the FDA to treat pediatric cancer, which is the leading disease killer of our nation’s children. Annette’s advocacy has been essential in the fight for new treatments. Annette has been an extraordinary advocate and leader! The Creating Hope Act passed yesterday evening in the House!”

children are worth fighting for…
It’s a HONOR to carry part of their burden and to fight their fight…

Luke

Luke was a boy in my 1st grade class, many-many moons ago…
Back in the day when cancer had not invaded our boy’s bodies…
Now Carey (Luke's mom) and I have a forever friendship, cancer-mom-sister-friend,
2 momma bears with broken hearts whose boys are warriors…

Luke’s story fuels my heart to keep on fighting for “the next kid”…
1 in ever 330 kids will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 21…
FIGHT ‘S ON FOR A DADGUM CURE…
